The Most Important Thing

There is an obscure little book by children's author Margaret Wise Brown (of Goodnight Moon fame) entitled The Important Book.

It's a sweet little book that talks about various aspects of everyday objects, naming one the "most important thing" that you should know about that object Here's an example: The important thing about rain is that it is wet. It falls out of the sky, and it sounds like rain, and makes things shiny, and it does not taste like anything, and is the color of air. But the important thing about rain is that it is wet.

In that same way, I'd like to describe myself as follows:

The important thing about me is that I am a follower of Christ. I am the wife of Jon Hamilton. I am the mother of 5 children. I love to write and cook and homeschool my children. I enjoy crafts and sewing and singing along to the music on the radio. I collect tea cups (but not tea pots) and I love the happy look of daffodils at the end of the winter announcing the spring is on its way. I have blue eyes and dark blonde hair.

But the important thing about me is that I am a follower of Christ.

Whether or not we follow Jesus Christ is the most important thing about every single person that has ever lived, is currently living, or will live at any point in the future. In fact, it is so important that at the end of your life, it is all that will matter. I won't fill this page with pleadings, asking my readings to make the decision to follow Christ as I have done. But I will say that I pray every day I am such an example of Christ's love that others will want to know Him and experience the joy and peace that only He can give. I want to be a reflection of Christ's magnificent love.

If you have any questions about following Christ, please just commit to asking God Himself to revealing the truth to you. And find someone who already follows Christ ... talk with them and discuss what it really means to take up your cross daily and follow after Christ. Though there are many others who can share with you, I am always available to talk about my Savior and my Lord.

I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. (Ephesians 3:17-19)

And, may the Lord bless you and keep you: May the Lord make His face shine upon you, and be gracious unto you: May the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace. (Numbers 6:24)
